I play so much with you guys on the minecraft server but i dont know what you guys are learning for to become or what you are working as.
I will start:
I work at a large dutch governmental department of IT.
I manage the Linux servers there for all external stuff like email web etc.

I'm a software support dude at a company called Bar Squared in the UK - we have our own custom IT Software for the legal sector.
I tell people to turn it off and on again, and hope that it fixes things.

Well, if you work for the government, you have to administer something important I guess?
Is it administering only their IT stuff (like mail etc.) or is it the whole dutch IT stuffs?

Its only a little part of the dutch government mostly the part with f16 fighter jets and tanks and such (oh scrap tanks we just sold them xD).
My group is responsible for all traffic going to the bad world called internet xD
And yes we dont trust the other dutch IT guys to manage out IT.

so that means you waste your time doing pointless stuff,
and trying to remember the first 1,000 numbers of Pi?

If you call the economy pointless, and encryption of things such as your personal information and bank details pointless, then yes.

Studying pure maths won't lead straight into the economy, will it? You'll have to do some kind of additional course or is it more applied maths?

Some areas of 'pure' maths can be applied to economy (quite a bit of maths is still called pure but has lots of applications), but Maths at university has both pure and applied maths in the course

I coach speech and debate for an all boys catholic school, and judge college level tournaments for extra cash. I'm getting my degree in Speech Communications with 2 years to go, and then a Masters Degree in something similar, to eventually teach at a college.

I'm a bit late, but I'm going to jump back in anyway.
I'm a Game Engineer, currently at University but released a number of games on the internets. Going on to specialise in System Design and Programming. I'll tell you more about my life and such in my hello thread I'm about to post. But I'm hoping to gain an Internship with Blizzard Entertainment for my placement year in my 3rd year. Made a bit of contact and it's very ambitious but we'll see what comes of it.
I've studied general computing and IT in college as well, I am a qualified IT support person thingie. Also lots of experience with servers and such.
Hoping to go onto working on MMORPG's as System Design and Programming. Should be fun :)

I'm only in the measly 6th grade. :l I wish I was in 7th grade or 8th grade math due to the level I'm at
This thread has pretty much died but I'll post anyway.
I'm in the 10th grade right now and since I have additional English credits I get to take 3 elective classes (Classes that you choose to take.) I am currently taking Advanced Psychology, Dual Credit Sociology and Conflict Resolution. When I graduate I plan to join the U.S. Marines, then hopefully go to uni to become a Psychologist. :D

Get the groundings of normal IT over game dev at level 3. Gonna go ahead and assume it's the same / similar btec to what I did (if it's A levels then u won't get close to the level of IT skill the btec students will but enough for uni). Get the full IT groundings sorted then go onto Uni for game dev / com sci where you'll learn the real stuff. Level 3 just can't teach you game dev, not the resources. Push forward for good grades and the best IT knowledge and Uni will come quickly :)
I'm a few years ahead of you at the moment it seems :)

Well it's an internship, as long as the portfolio backs up the claims and you're passionate they will take you if you have the means to get there and the abilities to do it well. My problem would be getting / staying over there and whether or not I actually wanted to. We'll see, got some contact back etc but not aiming for it this year anyway :P
